About Glen
 

Glen plucked his first string back in 1985, and has since acquired more than 30 years experience as a guitarist. He has trained with some great teachers over the years, including Ren Walters, James Wilson, James Sherlock, Ron Allen, Peter Petrucci, and Jack Pantazis.

 

Glen studied Jazz in Melbourne for many years and has a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the Victorian College of the Arts (1998), majoring in Improvisation.

Glen has also completed the Advanced Certificate in Music Performance (Jazz/Popular) from Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE in 1995.

 

Glen's playing experience encompasses a vast range of genres, including 'world music',

Indian music, jazz, blues, rock, electronic music, free improvisation, funk, and folk music. He has recorded on many albums, and has played guitar in many bands including Chakradah, Naad, Disasterware, Akin, Yilila, Dr. Chrome, and The Ambients.

Glen has toured around Australia as well as Holland, Denmark and Japan.

He has toured with aboriginal band Yilila from Numbulwar, Arhnem land, at festivals around Australia and also joined the band for two tours to Europe. They performed at the prestigious WOMEX world music expo in Copenhagen in 2009.

 

From 1997 to 2003 Glen performed regularly with the world music group AKIN at many festivals around Australia including:

 

  • Port Fairy Folk Festival (VIC)

  • Apollo Bay Music Festival (VIC)

  • Maldon Folk Festival (VIC)

  • Bellingen Global Carnival (NSW)

  • Victor Harbour Folk Festival (SA)

  • Jamberoo festival (NSW)

  • Melbourne International Festival (VIC)                                                                                       

 

In recent years Glen has been recording and performing with his band, The Ambients.

His guitar playing is featured throughout their debut double album, titled "Into Red Dust". 

The Ambients are currently in the post production stages of a new album to be released on vinyl and digital download. Samples may be heard at the Ambients site.
